For me, creating Yardbirds® turns work into fun! Each Yardbirds® is unique, whimsical, and guaranteed to bring pleasure to its owner. A Yardbirds® is a great conversation piece; many people have fun identifying the parts I cleverly use to make them and they marvel at the way the simple tilt of a head can give a sculpture so much personality.
I use mostly scrap and recycled parts to create my metal birds, critters, dogs, and cats. I think the Yardbirds® are a great way to contribute to the good of the environment; they are saving rejected metal parts from ending up in a landfill and they do wonders for improving the looks of their owners' homes or yards! All Yardbirds® and Junkyard Dogs & Cats are proudly hand-crafted in Kentucky!
My medium is metal sculpture. Some of the materials I use include garden tools, car parts, farm implements, bicycle parts, and mufflers. Numerous new designs are added to the Yardbirds® collection every six months.
I believe that the things that make us happiest in life when we obtain them are not always the necessities of life, but usually the things that we do not need make us the happiest. And that's what Yardbirds® are all about - happiness!
